We labelled every post from 27 company pages by type. The types pages post least (team, milestones) earn the most; the type they post most (thought leadership) earns the least.

The pattern is simple: followers of a company page respond to the company's people and news, not to generic advice that any account could post. Thought leadership does draw slightly more comments per reaction than product posts (7.5 vs 3.9 per 100), so it is not useless, but as the main diet of a page it is the weakest choice.

Posts that feature a named person get 73% more

Posts naming or featuring a specific person got +73% vs the same page's other posts (95% CI +43% to +121%) and +41% comments. Only 25% of company posts do it. At 1,500+ followers the lift is +128%.

Tagging the people involved adds to it (+57% for one person, +87% for two or three) and so does tagging partner companies (+53%). Tagged people see the post and often react or reshare, which is how a company post travels.

How to write it

  • Open with the news. Bold-claim openers got -27% and question openers -35% vs posts that open with the announcement itself.
  • Do not ask for comments. Posts ending with "What do you think?" or "comment below" got 11% fewer comments.
  • Write it out. 300 to 600 character posts got -15% vs 600 to 900; 900 to 1,300 did best.
  • Edit the AI voice out. 73% of company posts read as AI, and those got 20% less engagement than the same page's other posts.
  • Use images or short video, not link previews. Link previews got -30% vs images; 30 to 60 second videos +58% vs the page average.
